Ryu Clinic
Precision meets tradition. Evidence-informed acupuncture and herbal medicine — for people who want to understand their health, not just manage it.
01 · How we work
Full attention. Every visit.
-
Unhurried Intake60 minutes for your first visit.
A rushed intake produces a shallow diagnosis. The first visit is 60 minutes: full symptom history, lifestyle factors, sleep, digestion, stress load, and any labs you want reviewed. We build the full picture before we touch a needle.
-
Precision AcupunctureClassical and evidence-informed.
Point selection is grounded in both classical channel theory and current research. Every treatment is explained before it begins — what points are being used, what they are intended to do, and how to know if it is working. No mystery, no theatre.
-
Custom Herbal MedicineIndividually dispensed, not stock formulas.
Formulas are tailored to your pattern, not the textbook version of your diagnosis. We work with high-quality granule concentrates and adjust dosing visit by visit as your presentation shifts. Your formula evolves as you do.
-
Integrative ApproachEast and West in dialogue.
We read your bloodwork alongside your pulse and tongue. If you are working with a GP, physiotherapist, or specialist, we coordinate — not compete. ICBC claims handled directly. East Asian medicine works best when it knows the whole clinical picture.
02 · What to expect
Three disciplines, one framework.
Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and integrative diagnosis — each complete on its own, more powerful together.
Acupuncture
Classical channels. Evidence-based point selection.
03 · Patient reviews
What patients say.
"Dr. Ryu took the time to actually understand what was going on with my body. After my car accident I saw multiple practitioners — his intake was the most thorough by far. My pain was significantly reduced within 4 sessions."
Google Review
"I have been dealing with chronic migraines for years. Dr. Ryu explained the pattern behind them in a way no one else had. The herbal formula he prescribed alongside acupuncture made a real difference — fewer headaches, lighter when they come."
Google Review
"What sets him apart is the combination of deep traditional knowledge and a willingness to explain the science. He read my bloodwork alongside the TCM diagnosis. I left the first appointment with a clear treatment plan and actually understood it."

04 · Questions
What people ask before their first visit.
- Does acupuncture hurt?
- Most people feel little or nothing as the needles are inserted. Occasionally there is a brief dull ache, warmth, or a traveling sensation — these are signs the point has been activated. The needles are hair-thin, nothing like a hypodermic injection. Most patients relax or fall asleep during treatment.
- How many sessions before I notice something?
- Many people notice a shift after the first one or two visits. For chronic conditions that took years to develop, a course of 6–10 sessions is typical before making a longer-term plan. Acute conditions often resolve faster. You will receive an honest estimate at your first visit — not a prescription for indefinite care.
- Do you handle ICBC claims?
- Yes. Ryu Clinic is an ICBC-registered provider and accepts direct billing for motor vehicle accident recovery. Acupuncture is a covered treatment under most ICBC claims. Bring your claim number to your first appointment.
- Do you work alongside my medical doctor?
- Yes, and we prefer it. We will read your labs, understand your current medications, and coordinate with your GP or specialist if you give permission. Acupuncture and herbal medicine work best as a complement to conventional care, not a replacement for it.
- What conditions respond well to this kind of treatment?
- Pain conditions, headaches, sleep disorders, digestive issues, anxiety and stress-related symptoms, menstrual irregularity, fatigue, and recovery support after injury or surgery tend to respond well. We will tell you at intake if we think this approach is unlikely to help your specific presentation.
